It’s all about choice

At last week’s ABC Sub-Committee Hearing, the liquor retailers who testified repeatedly said they don’t want to any products other than wine and liquor.

That’s fine.

It’s a choice they’re free to make for their businesses.

At the same time, they should not continue to stand in the way of retail food stores, who have proven they can sell beer and pharmaceuticals safely and responsibly, selling wine.

Consumer demands have changed in the 70-plus years since Prohibition was overturned. They — at least the thousands who support Red, White & Food — want the ability to buy wine in retail food stores.

Just so you know, Red, White & Food supporters recommended that liquor stores have the option of selling ice, mixers, glasses, and, yes, corkscrews. That’s a choice that makes sense for consumers as well.
